Where You Find the Real Magic!

What a great weekend!  Mine was filled with good food, stories and laughter.  I hope yours was the same.

Spending time with my family (especially the little ones) reminded me of the “real magic” of the holiday season and how difficult it was for me to wait as a kid.

When I was younger, it seemed like nothing could get here fast enough.

The last day of school.

The trip to the tree farm.

The day we put up the lights.

The first snow that sticks.

The cookies that we would make.

Singing to all of our friends in the neighborhood.

Santa dropping by the house with a bag of gifts.

The New Year’s Day bowl game celebrations.

For most of us, this time of year is a bag of mixed emotions; equal parts love, excitement, uncertainty and anxiety.   Getting ready for the holidays was hard work, required much patience and was over in the twinkle of an eye.

And then it occurred to me.

This waiting game that we play at the end of every year is much like the home buying process in Nashville right now.  We ride the same emotional roller coaster.  Our patience is constantly tested.  The prep work consumes our free time.  We anxiously wait for that perfect home to hit the market.  And realize that the best opportunities are gone in an instant.

As I grew older, one of the lessons I learned was the “real magic” does not come at the end.  It is not hidden in the gifts we receive or the food we eat.  What makes it special are the people that we take with us on this journey.  This is where the magic lives.
