It's in my best interest to hold your interests higher

hold your interests higherIf you follow the news online, you likely heard about an investigation of a Realty company in Vancouver, Canada.

The market in Vancouver is much like Nashville, fast and furious.

The owner of this firm is under investigation for training his sales people to act in the company’s best interests first.

In a recorded interview, the owner reportedly tells his sales people to mislead clients and at the end tells them to follow the rules and protect your license.

It appears that this company is trying to walk the line between what is acceptable and what is not.

Former agents have said that this company’s goal is to sell the homes as quickly as possible (regardless of the sales price) and to sell them to other clients of the firm to maximize profits.

“They get the seller to list for a low price and agree to pay a bonus. Then they mislead buyers’ agents on how many offers there are. Then they sell to a New Coast client anyway,” said one competing agent who has been involved in several deals with New Coast.

This makes my blood boil and steam roll out of my ears.

I could sit here and tell you that my philosophy is to put the client’s interests above those of the company and myself.  I fully believe that it is in my best interest to hold your interests higher.   The National Association of Realtors and Benchmark Realty both agree whole heartedly.

I could also say that it is my personal belief that an agent should never represent more than one party in a transaction.  My company, Benchmark Realty, also holds that philosophy.  This is why we practice designated agency and have a companywide rule prohibiting dual representation of clients.

Instead of telling you, I’d rather you read what one of my favorite clients wrote about me on Zillow.

He said, “I used Steve to purchase a house recently. Steve was the third agent I worked with as I wasn't satisfied with the first two. We looked at a number of houses before I made an offer that was accepted. I closed several weeks ago. Steve's service was outstanding from the start of my search through closing and after. He is a consummate professional who puts his client's interests ahead of his own. He's extremely knowledgeable about all facets of real estate and I will definitely use him again in the future.”
