Is Bellevue, Nashville's next hot spot
For many years, Bellevue was treated like Nashville’s step child.
In 1980, the beloved Bellevue High School was shuttered and the students transferred several miles towards Nashville to Hillwood High School in West Meade. Then in the middle of the financial crisis, Bellevue Center closed in 2008.
This area was hit hard during the financial downturn and did not bounce back as well as other areas that were in the downtown core.
As Nashville was digging it’s way out of the crisis, disaster hit this area hard with the flooding from the 500-year storms on May 1, 2010. While the water came and went in the course of a weekend, it took a few years for some neighborhoods to fully recover from the devastation.
Yet, the residents of this wonderful community did not give up.
At the beginning of 2016, One Bellevue Place, started one of the largest redevelopment projects in the last 15 years in this region. This $200 million dollar overhaul of the former Bellevue Center is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
The mall will be replaced with a mixed-use community that features apartment homes, shopping, entertainment and office space.
Then in January of this year, it was announced that Metro Schools was moving the high school back to Bellevue. It was a bittersweet announcement because it came at the expense of Hillwood High School.
For years, I thought of Bellevue as one of the hidden gems on the southwest side of town. And we’ve had many happy clients call it home over the years.
But this beautiful area won’t stay a secret for much longer.
I expect that when the high school and One Bellevue Place are completed, this will be the next hot area of Nashville. The urban core is closing in on maximum capacity and there is only one way to go to expand.
